Frame of Mind

The phrase came to my mind in a dream about types of homes.  “Frame of mind: a mood that influences one's attitude or behavior.”

Two days ago, warmer weather brought the hope of spring and more mountain biking.  Looking out at sunny weather tempted me to enjoy a walk in above-freezing temperature.   Anticipation!

Heavy snow yesterday and this morning brought a different frame of mind — a type of “home” one can live in ... mentally.  A passing thought, enjoying winter at home while our manager plans her escape to Disneyland — smart behavior!

Listening to Love

Imagine how many love songs are repeated for Valentine’s Day.  Now imagine the sound of silence while “listening” to the love in your heart.  I like to think one owns that music as something purely personal.

My sweetheart Kay & I enjoyed many moments of silence while listening to love together.  We are blessed to own that ongoing experience ... without end.

and then some

We have been blessed with resources to meet our needs ... and then some.  (Informal phrase defined: “and plenty more than that.”)  Life on Earth provides opportunities to grow, and much more.

At the University of Utah, Kay Hinckley & I learned music appreciation and plenty more ... about love.  Homework assignments to attend concerts got us going together.  We studied and loved classical music ... and then some.  After 51 years of marriage, we’ve only just begun ... to live.

wherever we’re at

Quoting Meredith on her Senior Fitness we follow in our activity room, start by engaging “wherever we’re at.”  Makes me stop and think about where I am.  Later, during the 3-second water break, I consider where I will be when the session ends — motivated, stronger, and refreshed?  

Now that we’re well into the new year, planning for February and maybe a spring vacation, it’s important to know where we are.  That helps me set new week’s resolutions.

By the way, I am grateful to know where my sweetheart Kay is ... with loved ones on the other side, not far away ... wherever we are.

Occasionally listening to a public radio station, I hear commercial encouragement to, “Learn more at (whatever) dot com.”  So neat to know a place to go for more information about a product or service.

I believe in lifelong learning.  Every day I go to a well of information — books, for example — without TV.  In contrast, my wife Kay, a leading example of informed, conservative thinking, made it a habit of watching opposing news — a balance I failed to achieve.  Her perspective is even better now, I am sure.

Recalling “a work in progress” five years ago, I decided to finally finish it.  My companion, Sister Kay Cannon, and I were serving “in the trenches” for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the wonderful people of Metro Detroit, Michigan.

After twelve months on a 23-month, 2017 assignment, we were transferred to Farr West.  Seven weeks later, we were in nearby Ogden when Kay received a mission transfer for a heavenly assignment, leaving me “in earthly trenches”.  Nevertheless, we continued working together as eternal companions ... forever in love.

It is a work in progress ... for our sisters and brothers ... coming to Christ, the Savior of mankind.

A thought for all year, I suggest, as we study the New Testament and learn more about Jesus Christ.  My companion Kay & I know He lives and loves each one of our Heavenly Father’s children.
